A fable that will double your income

This book is outstanding. If you're looking for "the secrets of wealth", you'll find this book to be exactly what you're looking for. I think it's obvious that these secrets exist: if all the money in the U.S. were evenly distributed to every person, you would find that, in six months, we'd again have an upper, middle and lower-class....and they'd probably be the same people that occupy those "classes" now.

Why? Quite simply because wealthy people know something that the average person doesn't know. They know the secrets of wealth. And that's what you'll find in this book.

Some of my fellow reviewers said this book was "too simple" or lacked "strategies". On the contrary, this book, unlike so many others of the same vein, actually gives practical steps on how to achieve the income of your desires. Naturally, you will need to fill in the own details about the business that you find yourself working in; but the principles are the same and they are laid out here very clearly. Too simple? I don't think so. The principles of success are actually quite simple. If there is a difficult part, it's changing your life-long habits of scarcity into new habits of wealth consciousness.

Also, it should be noted that the book is in a fable format which is much more readable than the text of some of the older, more "classic" texts, such as "Think and Grow Rich". I'm not saying anything against the classic books, only that this modern interpretation gives much of the same information. I would recommend anyone who loves "The Instant Millionaire" to immediately get a copy of Think and Grow Rich if they haven't read it.

Incidentally, I credit this book with my success as an entrepreneur. The use of the ideas in this book allowed me to start from scratch in one business and create an annualized six-figure income in less than 6 months.

If you only ever read one self-help book make it this one

The best book by far I have read on self development, and I have trawled through a fair few in my time. The format of a tale or fable works very well and happily avoids the pitfalls of pretentiousness and self indulgence that other books of this nature are prone. The answers and principles contained within are not new of course but the way in which these are presented have an impact like no other book. For anyone interested in improving themselves, financially or otherwise, this book really is a must read.

It's eerie how well this works

I first read this book five years ago. I was so impressed and excited by the book's principles that I urged several like-minded friends to buy the book, and I sat down and listed my goals and my plan to become a millionaire, more as a fun, silly exercise than anything else. (For fun, I bought myself and a good friend those fake but nice-looking million dollar bills, and we wrote ourselves checks for twenty-five million dollars!)
Five years later, it is positively CREEPY how those original goals are mysteriously coming true. I'm exactly where I'd told myself I would be -- I have a net worth of just over a quarter of a million dollars, and I'm on track to become a millionaire by age 30 -- which is just mind-blowing to me!
I recommend that you buy this book for the underlying principles, but also buy Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad, Poor Dad series. The Rich Dad books take the principles in the Instant Millionaire a step further and bridge the gap between what I call "the principles," which can seem kind of hocus-pocus if you don't understand why they work, and putting them into action.
A footnote...I had lost touch for a few years with one of the friends I'd urged to read this book (the one I gave the million-dollar bill to). We caught up with each other a few months ago (and have become close friends again), but I found out that she had never implemented the suggestions in the Instant Millionaire (I suppose they seemed too simplistic and too good to be true).
Sadly, she is still renting, still living paycheck-to-paycheck, and still in ever-mounting debt. She seemed impressed with my success (which I'm careful not to flaunt!) but seems to think it was all good luck, or specific career skills, or something. I hope I can convince her this time that she needs to READ AND APPLY THIS BOOK and she can experience the same mind-blowing success!!!

a glimpse into engineering information gathering and use

One commonly held view of the relationship between scientists and engineers assumes that the latter represent an applied form of the former. Vincenti shatters this notion by showing how engineers develop their knowledge and use that information in the context of the problems they solve. While engineers and scientists share in their formative education a curriculum heavily devoted to mathematics (at least through differential equations) and fundamental physical forces, their priorities diverge at the context of their assigned tasks and in the type and quality of information that can be made available to complete their purposes. In particular, engineering knowledge does not exist for its own sake, in contrast to science.
Vincenti cites several examples from the aeronautics industry. While these descriptions take on an anecdotal character, these collected narratives nonetheless impose his conclusion as well as any philosophical essay could and probably better. In each case, _What_Do_Engineers_Know_?_ demonstrates that incomplete information may yield intermediate results having little or no effect on the intended problem.
The first example relates to a wing design for the B-24. The history of the Davis airfoil design is explained, as well as its incorporation for the B-24 wing. At the time of its adoption, various airfoil shapes had been investigated, and the Davis form subsequently was found to resemble the high performance laminar-flow airfoil. But did this form benefit the B-24 performance. Probably not, answers the author. Laminar flow can be difficult to maintain at the Reynolds numbers typical of modern aircraft, particularly in wartime conditions when surface roughness will likely increase tripping the boundary layer to turbulent (with resulting increased drag -- laminar flow has a thinner boundary layer, but is more prone to flow separation). The B-24 was considered a fine aircraft, in part due to its wing length.
The second example describes flying-quality characteristics and relative design priorities regarding stability and control. (The Wright brothers had emphasized stability in the infancy of manned powered flight.) Designers had to determine what characteristics made an airplane desirable to pilots, and which would consign them to the scrapyard. This ergonomic study evolved as pilot and aircraft capabilities expanded in speed and flight duration. An appendix provides qualitative criteria used to compare stability performance.
The third example compares how thermodynamics is treated by physicists and engineers. The latter employ control volume analysis as developed by Ludwig Prandtl for economy and accuracy rather than the understanding of nature governing thermal energy transfer. The fourth example covers data collection for airplane propellers. Subtle changes in camber, pitch and twist in a design can have subtle or profound effects on efficiency. These were evaluated using empirical studies, in contrast to a more analytical treatment where the contributing second and third order effects are more difficult to distinguish. The fifth example explains the struggles in riveting thin metal sheets with countersunk joints for aircraft production. The establishment of standard head angles required more detailed material behavior for both rivets and attaching sheets than previously known.
Finally Vincenti concludes with a synthesis on how design knowledge develops from functional collections of information. The writing style can be tedious at times, and other times smooth, but this is a matter of personal taste for the reader. While a typical engineer may find some aspects of the work, particularly among the examples, more familiar than other chapters, it nonetheless remains a beneficial insight into how engineering knowledge is acquired, organized and utilized to address the concern at hand.

Vincenti shows the way technologies mature

I am an instructional technologist dealing a lot with the design and development of products in a young technology, computer-based instruction. My technology is in its youth compared to other technologies that have become essential to our social and economic operations. I am interested in knowing the stages my technology will go through and the types of knowledge it must accumulate as it matures, which seems certain, given current interest and ferment.
Vincenti describes how aeronautics technologies grew and went through their stages, and this has given me insight into my own. This is not a book of idealized process for implementing technology. It is s set of historical case studies, some of which Vincenti himself participated in, others of which he researched.
The book is not easy to read, but I have found it very rewarding. It is full of technical terms and heavy technology. At the same time, if you pay the price in effort and study this book carefully, you will not be disappointed. You will see how technologies develop, and knowing this, you will be able to anticipate developments and needs in your own area of growth.

interesting chapters from aeronautical history

As Prof. Vincenti points out in the preface, the people interested in the history of aviation may prefer to omit epistemological parts of the book. I must agree. The epistemological part (introduction of the book, introductions and conclusions of the chapters, 50 pages after the chapter 6) is too wordy to my taste. I can't say it isn't interesting (based on what I learned about differences between engineers and scientists I can say that I am engineer) but it is definitely not easy to read (with lot of redundancy and abstraction).

The narrative part of the chapters 2-6 is other case. There are very interesting stories about:
2. airfoil design and use (laminar flow, Davis's airfoil used in B-24 Liberator)
3. flying quality specification
4. development of control volume analysis (in Prandtl's aerodynamics)
5. air-propeller test (by Durand and Lesley)
6. development of flush riveting

The notes in pages 259-318 contain also comprehensive bibliography to all stories.

Will Surely Enhance Your Elder Scrolls Experience

This is a great selection of IN-GAME texts beautifully collected, bound and arranged to help immerse yourself in the lore of the land, provinces and alliances available in the video game The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Nearly each story is accompanied by beautiful conceptual and original artwork to help deepen your understanding of the text. This is a first in a series of books exploring the lore of the Elder Scrolls Universe. If you are an Elder Scrolls fan, this book is sure to enhance your understanding of Tamriel.

Cons:
- Kinda Pricey
- I might have picked a slightly different font
- No new lore. All material can be found and read in-game.

Great book for fans

The presentation is beautiful. It's a hardcover with a surface that's almost velvety with a nice emboss design. If you happen to have the Diablo III companions on the folklore, such as The Book of Cain or The Book of Tyrael, this is almost like those in terms of presentation. The pages are designed like old parchment with yellow pages and mould stains.

The content are actually text from the game. You might find the text online as well through sources such as Wikia but that would be troublesome to go through compared to them all collected neatly in this book.

The text are stories and lore from various inhabitants of Tamriel, from all the three warring factions, Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall Convenant and Ebonheart. There's also a section with several chapters on creatures.

For every spread, there's either one or two pieces of beautiful artworks that decorate the blocks of text.

It's a great book for fans of Elder Scrolls Online. The only downside is the peculiar choice of font used that affects the legibility.

Interesting and artistically beautiful, not entirely what I expected

For fans of the Elder Scrolls online, this is a must-have gaming supplement.

It's not exactly what I expected.

I thought that it was going to be a guide to the land. Silly me. What it is instead is a series of anecdotes and tales as told by inhabitants of Tamriel.

The book itself is a work of artistry. It has a heavy duty binding, and pages that are faux aged. It is lavishly illustrated, and many pages have small hand-drawn illustrations and illegible ink-ings that add to the feeling that this is a collection of stories or perhaps a personal journal.

The one thing that it is lacking is maps. I was really expecting there to be maps. Even a collection of stories might've had a hand-drawn map or two tucked into it.

Also, truth in lending, while I highly recommend this book. If you're expecting there to be secrets revealed in it, think again. Everything in this book that I read is available in other sources. Sorry! No dark secrets are revealed.

Again if you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls, I highly recommend this book.

collection of related articles

This is a collection of previously published articles and blog posts, all related to the subject of the effects of aging on whiskey. The clear theme is that there are no substitutes to the tried and true methods of producing whiskey that measures up to the standard of a great sipping whiskey. You can make whiskey in small barrels, you can cut the aging time, but doing either of these will not result in a product with the same characteristics of a traditionally produced and aged product.

You may disagree with the author, but he submits interesting facts and presents his case lucidly.

I am considering micro-produced whiskey, and I found the articles helpful and well worth the price and reading time.

Very Interesting Information

You hear a lot of small craft distillers that are trying to get into the bourbon business talk about using smaller barrels to accelerate the aging process. This information tends to contradict their claims. Good to gather as much information as possible so you have a better understanding of pros and cons to various production & maturation processes and can make a better informed decision when buying bourbon. Enjoyed reading, very short, easy read.

Great deal for three manga from Akira Toriyama's magnum opus

Because of the resurgence of DBZ's popularity in the states (DBZ Abridged, Battle of the Gods, Dragonball Kai, Rock the Dragon, SH Figuarts from Bandai) I wish that Viz would reprint all of the Dragonball Z VIZBIG for the growing or re-interested fanbase. Some of the volumes are being resold for obscene amounts of money, I've seen some go for over 100 dollars both on Amazon and eBay! Luckily I did not have to pay for a price-scalped volume of DBZ VIZBIG. Reading the manga gives new perspective on Toriyama's familiar tale, and also since all of the artwork is his own, it's interesting to compare it to some of the artwork used in the anime. I recommend any fan of DBZ to read the manga, and VIZBIG is probably the easiest way to get into it. If people buy more of these wonderful volumes, hopefully Viz will reprint them!

Received this as a Christmas present (I know, late review, it's June!) Book is fantastic though. I mean, it's DBZ, difficult to go wrong (unless of course your name is Goku in which case A. You're awesome and B. You procrastinate saving the world...a lot. Inadvertently though.) The book I received was brand new, arrived promptly & as a total surprise. Definitely will be purchasing more in the future (different volumes, probably. This one is pretty darn good though....) Kamehameha!
