Interesting & fun read!

This book contains several interviews with Foreign Wives (non-Asian) & Japanese Husband couples. It gave plenty of insights into the positives & negatives of a cross-cultural marriage; particularly with a Japanese husband! I thought this was a good read as I'm currently in this type of relationship. I empathized with most of the women interviewed and admire how many have successful marriages and careers. It also helped me understand my husband a bit more! Definitely gives a good insight for those who might be interested in Japanese culture & relationships with Japanese men.

Yes, it can work

I'm a Western woman married to a Japanese man. I found this book interesting since it focuses on this kind of (still unusual) relationship. It's a quick read---fairly short---and is comprised of Q&A interviews with the women of these mixed unions. I wish there had been more "story" to the book, but I did enjoy reading it.

Fascinating look at cross-cultural relationships!

I loved Marriage in Translation and the variety of women interviewed in the piece. Each woman, coming from places like the US, Europe or Australia, all had fascinating stories to tell and gave detailed insight on Eastern/Western cultural differences and similarities, including ideas with Japanese terminology that have no direct English translation. I learned a lot from these interviews and would recommend this book to anyone interested in Japanese culture!
