About the Author
C. C. Lee, Ph.D., is a Research Program Manager for the fuel cell environmental impact program at the National Risk Management Research Laboratory of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati, Ohio. In his 30 years of experience with EPA, he has conducted many engineering and regulatory research projects that often involve several environmental issues ranging from clean air and clean water control to solid waste disposal. He is recognized as a worldwide expert in the thermal treatment of hazardous wastes. At the initiation of the U.S. State Department, he served as head of the U.S. delegation to the Conference on "National Focal Points for Low- and Non-Waste Technology." He has published more than 175 papers and reports and has authored 17 books in various environmental areas.

Massive cookbook, chock full of recipes and still available, new.

This has got to be the best deal on the planet, when it comes to cook books. There are many recipes in each book that will please anyone!

Now keep in mind that these are typical community compilation cookbooks, but on a massive scale. Recipes may be repeated several times with different names or minor ingredient differences. There are plenty of Campbell's soup recipes in here. With that in mind, there are also great recipes as well, but you do have to sort the wheat from the chaff...

They are all, Volumes 1-5, still available from the Louisiana Chapter of the AT&T Pioneers for $16 each, shipped. Do a google search for
"Louisiana Chapter Pioneer Cookbooks-AT&T Pioneers five cookbooks copy" and you'll find the info you need to order them.

Great selection of recipes

I inherited this cookbook from my mother-in-law, and even though I'm a proud New Englander I love this southern book and use it all the time. This cookbook is a lot like those church and other fund-raiser cookbooks where individuals contributed, but it's huge -- almost 800 pages of recipes. It's got just about everything you could want to cook in it, from appetizers and relishes to rolls, meats, soups, salads, preserves, beverages, and candy. Lots of recipes are 'from scratch' while others use canned soups and other prepared ingredients for quick meals.

The arrangement is a little unusual in that all like recipes are grouped together and arranged alphabetically. Under the casserole section, for instance, you'll see all the chicken casserole recipes together, then the eggplant casseroles, etc. This makes for easy comparison when deciding which recipe to work with on any given day.

A very worthwhile read.

I purchased this book with some reservations because it was written some time ago and I was not familiar with the author. However, history books do not "age", inasmuch as the author matters more than when it was written. Sometimes new documents are uncovered which shed new light on a topic, but that is rare. The sharp mind of a competent historian is far more important.

Having read the book, I have to say that it has been a most enjoyable reading experience. The author's style and approach are models of clarity, and his analysis/conclusions are fascinating. The author is truly a master historian, I am grateful that the book is still available and very happy to have come across it.

It is said that those who do not know history are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past. This book really drives the point home, even though it covers events that occurred fifteen hundred years ago. A great read.

Clear and Intriguing

This transcription of lectures dates from 1927 yet it still shows up on Norman Cantor's "Core Bibliography in Medieval Studies" (Inventing the Middle Ages, p. 443). There is good reason to continue to include it among a list of works generally of much more recent vintage.
Lucid and engaging, Bury presents a convincing case for the idea that the Roman Empire in the West did not "fall" but rather transformed through assimilation of the various Germanic tribes. Bury's description of the extent to which the "barbarians" strove to work within the empire and co-existed with remnants of Roman society are of particular interest.
Good companions to this work are "Before France & Germany" (Geary) and "The World of Late Antiquity" (Peter Brown).

I just completed this excellent work by W. Dale Compton, and enjoyed the entire experience. Compton provides excellent insight into diverse manufacturing organizations, their modern challenges, and engineering and managerial strategies for success. The book was written for engineering professions, and is essential for mid-level engineers making the career transition into executive management.
The common theme of book is based on solid engineering principles. There is no "fluff" or "filler" included in the text. Compton clearly illustrates realistic constraints and defines effective techniques for corrective action. I was very impressed with the manner in which Compton reiterates the value of accurate data collection, cross-functional teamwork, and the norms of manufacturing and engineering professionals. An Excellent Addition to My Engineering Library

I just completed this excellent work by W. Dale Compton, and enjoyed the entire experience. Compton provides excellent insight into diverse manufacturing organizations, their modern challenges, and engineering and managerial strategies for success. The book was written for engineering professions, and is essential for mid-level engineers making the career transition into executive management.
The common theme of book is based on solid engineering principles. There is no "fluff" or "filler" included in the text. Compton clearly illustrates realistic constraints and defines effective techniques for corrective action. I was very impressed with the manner in which Compton reiterates the value of accurate data collection, cross-functional teamwork, and the norms of manufacturing and engineering professionals. The author clearly has experience in core operations and manufacturing. I also appreciated his in-depth analysis and examples presented in each chapter appendix. I would recommend this book highly to any career manufacturing professional as a core desk resource.

Through the different tools and strategies that the book explains, the manager of a manufacturing firm will be able to succeed in a very competitive world market. Some of the tools and strategies described include statistical and mathematical techniques, current manufacturing approoaches used in the world, Human Resources and group managing, setting strategic goals and objectives for the enterprise, leadership roles and the difficult task of managing the technology. The Author, distinguished Gilbreth Professor at Purdue University School of Industrial Engineering, uses his many years of experience in the manufacturing sector to communicate to future and current managers the different tools that help them create and manage a world class organization.

Perfect primer for wary readers...

This book's strength is its easy readability, a fact that should be stressed. Too often books dealing with the subject of drugs are either too dry and scientific or to New Age and flower child. While this book does focus on the positive aspects of marijuana usage (sometimes to border on "hippyish") I feel it does so in a way that does not alienate those who might be nervous about reading drug-positive literature.
First, let's use the words cannabis or hemp instead of marijuana - as the author suggests - and second, let's get this book out to everyone over the age of 15 or 16. Parents, before you talk with your kids about "marijuana", read this book! Why? This book is not about "sparking a bowl" and getting high: This book uses facts and common sense to explain the history of cannabis and its uses (which are far more than medicinal), what cannabis has done and can do for humanity, and the governmental/commercial conspiracy against cannabis (and its advocates) in the US. The recreational use of hemp is but one facet of this informative book.
"The Emperor Wears No Clothes" changed my life. The lies and propaganda we Americans have been fed about cannabis (particularly in recent generations) is not only astounding but sickening, and Jack Herer necessarily shines a bright light into the dark recesses of our nation's cannabis hypocrisy.

Fun But Serious

This huge collection of generously illustrated historical material is a lot of fun; with the humorous tone of the narration that runs throughout, you almost forget the magnitude of the harm this long-running Drug War has caused to society. But it is all documented here: the many-thousand-year history of hemp; its recent fall from grace due to racism, puritanism, and business-government corruption; the enormous damage from Prohibition; the numerous potential benefits; and the support for legalization from many, many respected public figures. Oversized and colorful, this comprehensive book makes an excellent present and introduction to hemp re-legalization.

Although some of the historical data can be called into question, the essential claims of this book remain unrefuted by the disinformation campaigns of the anti-marijuana lobby. Herer shatters cannabis myths; he shows, with hard data that: pot has absolutely no toxicity to human tissues; pot has anti-carcinogenic properties; the tar, although greater in proportion than tobacco, is completely water-soluble; smoking marijuana shortly after having a stroke prevents the swelling of the brain -- and consequently much of the brain damage and loss of function associated with strokes.

Manly P. Hall was the founder of the Philosophical Research Society. In his lectures and writings, Manly Hall always emphasized the practical aspects of philosophy and religion as they applied to daily living. Not Your Typical Dream Book

Originally published under the title Studies in Dream Symbolism, this book does not reveal anything new under sun of the dream world. Freemason and philosopher Manly P. Hall gives his take, although unique, view on the symbols of dreams. The book discusses the ancient oracles, and past dreamers of ancient Greece and Biblical tales of the psyche. There is no reference of Freud or Jung here, or even other major contributors of dreaming, however, Hall does take a logical approach to understanding your dreams. Its not written in a step by step process, or a how-to guide. Its completely informative. Basically, after one writes their dreams down for dissection, they will take something from their dream and make associations. A rabbit, for instance is fast and it hops. Its small with big ears. These are typical traits of a rabbit, so one may presume that those traits are within yourself, or how you view the world. Hall's writing style, in this book, unlike others I found messy and unorganized. I was unsure of what some of his ideas were as they were not always clear. Although I like Halls work, this was, thus far, my least favorite. I gave it three stars for his approach to dream symbolism and I personally agree that the route to understanding your dreams described here is a credible one.

I'm a big fan of Manly P. Halls books, I've got quite a few and would have everyone if I could - a very may well have if I live long enough... the man is obviously a genius and should be read by anyone in search of the truth... I recommend it, of course!
