About the Author
Bruno Bettelheim was born in Vienna in 1903. He received his doctorate at the University of Vienna and came to America in 1939, after a year in the concentration camps of Dachau and Buchenwald. He was a Distinguished Professor of Education and Professor of both psychology and psychiatry at the University of Chicago. He died in 1990.

Helping Our Children Cope Effectively With Life

This is an important book for the healthy psychological development of children (and adults, too). It offers insight into the lasting value of these old tales, which were created and have been passed along for reasons far beyond, and infinitely more enriching, than merely entertainment. Even having been a fan of fairy tales and myths as vehicles for growth and transformation for years, I learned much through reading this thoughtful book.

Needed this for a class but was actually interested in it so I read more than required . He makes very interesting arguments. Love his psychoanalysis of childrens fairytales and it's impact on children as they develop. Would recommend.

Wow. Often disturbing but so insightful into the hidden possibilities of the meanings of original fairy tales. I found a lot of inspiration in this book to use with my classes. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys learning about another perspective of some of the most famous stories ever told.
